I've never read this author before. I've seen her books and assumed she wrote urban fantasy which doesnt tend to have strong romances the way I like them. When this popped up, I thought long and hard before buying. I was suckered :/ It's a good story, well written and a decent plot but it's not truly a romance. I would even say its a stretch to say romantic elements as the "couple" dont kiss or touch or have any exchanges that can be construed as passionate/loving.
Doesnt mean its a bad book. My rating is based on thinking I was getting one thing (sci fi romance) and discovering another. At the 60% mark when the couple hadnt kissed I got annoyed an almost DNF'd but I thought if we at least get a passionate declaration of "I love you" at the end I'll be fine.
Boy, I was suckered. no declaration and a cliff hanger ending. The hero and heroine are not together at the end of this. In fact, the soul mate psion bond they have is deliberately destroyed by them when they decide that it would be a weakness.
I'm a bit frustrated to have read a lengthy book where I was led to believe two characters would fall in love only to see they barely achieved a functioning friendship before going their separate ways at the end and a disappointing da da dum, tune in for the sequel to see what happens next. I'm not even sure if the sequel would be any more romantic than this one since I don't know this authors MO or if it would be a 3 book drawn out deal or a hey we're frenemies that respect one another but no yucky love stuff for us.
