"Great intro book for kids" - by Thomas R. Braun (BRISTOW, VA, United States)
Purchased this for my almost 8 year old to start teaching him computer programming. Gave it to him today, and he loved it. It's full of cartoons and color pictures. He was having fun and giggling as he made the computer say and do different things, and then got excited about programming his first game (chapter 1). He's now staying up to read the book by the light of a Coleman lantern because I told him it's lights out time.

One thing to be aware of is that the book is Python 2. I was more interested in a book to teach how to program than a specific language so this is fine for me, but if you want Python 3 this isn't for you. However, the book seems well laid out so far starting with fun stuff to get interest, doing a few chapters ... full review

"Good book but could be better" - by D. Kittrell (Seattle, WA USA)
I'm ambivalent about this book. It's a good beginning guide to Python plus some practical advice on the profession of development (interviewing, toolchains, team dynamics). But I'm not sure of the desired audience. There's no one thing it does well that's not better covered by other sources. While the writing style is OK the organization and layout could use some work. My general impression is this is a good book in need of better technical editing. I've rated it higher than these comments might suggest because I think the book serves a purpose but I also believe it could be better. If nothing else, it's a reasonable introductory Python text but take the guidelines and conclusions about interviewing and teams with a large grain of salt. My guess is the author might agree; he's telling his story and offering (admittedly useful) suggestions for a path that worked for him but ... full review

"Kindle version is fixed -- and its a great book too" - by KW (Boulder, CO USA)
In response to the "Don't get the Kindle version" review -- the problems appear to be resolved now. It looks fine on my Kindle 3 (aside from using proportional fonts in code examples, but this isn't too bad once you get used to it). Also, as many other reviewers have pointed out, this is an excellent book. I really wish all of my colleagues, predecessors, and managers had read it. My job would be so much easier and more enjoyable if they had.

""ohhhhh, that's why the hell that goes there!"" - by Nash Honold
I've just started to learn to code in general and had started with codecademy.com learning Python. While codecademy is wonderful, I quickly found myself forgetting certain characters to include and felt like I needed a physical reference for me to be able to be successful. Interesting enough, on my search for "Best" Python training guides and books I came across this. Being as I felt I still wanted a physical copy (just something about a book in your hands makes it real), I ordered the paperback version. That leads me to this. I didn't quite realize just how much more helpful this book was going to be! I decided to set aside codecademy for a moment and catch up with the book. This was a great idea. At least for me. This is why.

"Concise, clear Python 3.X introduction" - by D. Kadonsky (Dallas, TX, USA)
I have poked around the web for simple introductions to Python 3.x for a week and this is perfect for someone familiar with some basic programming. For reference, I'm familiar with VBA, R, SAS and a little awk and this was perfect for me. You can find all of the same information on python.org, but this is presented in a much smoother tone with better explanation.

One call-out for the Kindle Version, you can't copy-and-paste text from the Cloud Reader so all examples will have to be retyped manually. None of the examples are complicated enough that this is a real problem, but it's something I hadn't considered when I bought it.

Like I said above, this information is free elsewhere, but the even tone and concise explanations were well worth the small amount I paid.
