"It's 3:00 AM and you have a gas leak..now what?" - by LuAnn D D (Grayslake, IL United States)
I have to say that this is a great book for anyone who has just purchased their first home. If you are in a position where you have noone to depend on but yourself, get a copy. Although, a reviewer did pan the book, stating that it gave instructions on how to change a bulb, this is not the whole truth-the bulb that they are referring to in the book, is in your gas or electric oven-big difference. It gives details on how to ignite a pilot light on a water heater safely-( which, unfortunately, I have had to do twice )- and several other things that you may not even think about until it is too late. Better to buy the book, and familiarize yourself. Do you know how to shut off your gas supply in an emergency, or repair a leaking water tank ... full review

"I am the president of our homeowners assoc. and ..." - by Diane Paarlberg
I am the president of our homeowners assoc. and I have a board that doesn't understand anything about repairs and maintaining. With this book I can show them what I am talking about and they can visually see how it should be fixed. It allows them to be knowledgeable enough to recognize when something is don correctly or not. I have shown the book to several friends and they have ordered it for their kids who are doing DIY projects at home.

"Easy to follow directions" - by Matthew K
Great go to source for all things handy. Wide variety of topics and projects with easy to follow instructions. This book has saved me a lot of money by allowing me to complete projects, small to big, on my own. I am by no means a handy person, but with the Complete Do-It-Yourself Manual I can at least pretend to be.

"Best Tool in the House!" - by D. Parker
Absolutely, Positively... Could Not Survive Without This! I don't think there's a section in this manual that I haven't used - many I was so surprised to find included! I'm very proud to have changed every loose / broken / scary switch and outlet in my house with the help of this book, and fixed a ton of things I would have otherwise just replaced. Learned terms for tools, nails, screws - and what to use when - so I don't feel so dumb when asking for help at the hardware store. Multiple positive results as a 'handywoman' can be attributed to this book. It is beginning to come unbound, though, so maybe it's time for the latest edition. This is the very best 'tool' I own!

"The Effect of the Teacher we all wish we'd had." - by Amazon Customer (Seattle, WA)
I must confess two things: I'm already a Kooser fan and I only found him because he's the current poet laureate of the United States.

But since I came upon him he's become my favorite, not only for his superb writing, but for the person who shines through in every sentence in his poems and in this book, The Poetry Home Repair Manual. What this book isn't, is a list of all the do's and don'ts, of forms and rules. It's not a list at all, but an invitation to have a fireside chat about poetry, get cozy and talk about our favorite subject. And because Ted is a gifted teacher he can't help but share the kinds of observations that let us come away with tremendous insight and learning. What this means is that, as a result of reading The Poetry Home Repair Manual, you will become a better poet ... full review

"Who Killed the Town's Psycho?" - by Doris Cauda (Toms River, NJ)
I am in the process of reading the fifth in Sarah Graves Home Repair Mysteries. I just enjoy the way she describes the characters, especially her ex-husband and the town of Eastport, Maine. In this book, there are a series of "happenings" that finally lead to the town's bully/psycho, who enjoyed making his target terrified of him while he was blackmailing the target, getting killed himself. Jake and her best friend Ellie ultimately solve this murder and others to the pleasure of her readers. I found the book hard to put down and I'm sure others will too.

"Loaded..." - by Kindle Customer
More geared toward new building rather than renovation. Loads of info but couldn't find anything about replacing damaged door frames and thresholds in old homes, only could find prehung door installation, unless this info is hidden somewhere in this massive book. Pages are very thin so not sure about lifespan of the structure of this book. Very small print and lots of pictures. I would have rather paid more for this book in more durable presentation.
