"A good introduction" - by Amazon Customer (Walla Walla, WA USA)
This text gives pleanty of pictures and the cases studies help reinforce what the reader is learning in lecture and lab. I did not have to use the CD-Rom, but the lab book that goes with this text was a lot of fun.
"Same book, less money" - by Kyi (Atlanta, GA)
I bought this book for my microbiology class. The book that they wanted us to get is the hardback US version but the international one was a lot cheaper. As far as I can tell, there is no difference except maybe very miniscule things like page numbers, some case studies, and some numbers related to finances. The core text is the exact same and the paperback cover is still pretty sturdy. I highly recommend getting this version to save a decent chunk of money, especially if you only need this book for one semester.

"Highly Recommended Intro to Microbiology" - by L. Alexander (King of Prussia, PA)
The author successfully conveys the diversity of microorganisms that have evolved on planet Earth. There is an excellent chapter explaining how microbes interact with their environment to survive and proliferate. Other aspects covered include microbial genetics, viruses, symbiotic and pathogenic organisms and the diverse applications of microbiology to agriculture, environmental engineering, and biotechnology. The author packed a tremendous amount of information into 112 pages. Reading this book greatly increased my appreciation for the importance of microbial life in our biosphere.

"The Cell fits the Bill" - by michael johnson
Although, on occasion, the language got a bit technical it was not beyond comprehension. In fact, the thought provoking qualities it provided for someone of my capabilities was indeed refreshing and educational.
