"Teachers Have the Most Powerful Knowledge when they Collaborate" - by Shari L. Hardinger (Kansas City)
As administrators we don’t want to put one more thing on our teachers’ plates, but PLCs are one thing all schools should be implementing. PLCs are about collaboration. Collaboration of our best and brightest: our teachers. When teachers put their heads together to analyze student data and figure out how to intervene, great things happen for students. Our students can do nothing BUT succeed when this happens. This book walks you through and simplifies the process of PLCs. I am inspired to rethink some of the pieces that we have put into place based on this book. I feel like I have a better understanding of what should now take place moving forward.

"It is a good resource, but doesn't contain all the details" - by Joy Johnson
I would definitely buy this book again. It is a great resource for teachers wanting to set up their classrooms. I found many great ideas on setting up a classroom environment and as I read I made note of items that I would refer to later. I am keeping this book on my shelf as a permanent resource to refer back to as I need it, and I will often.

The book contains a lot of information which is really nice, but in one chapter it only gives an overview of classroom management programs and I was longing for more details on those. However, I can understand why the information was condensed because the book would be really long otherwise.

Overall this book gives me somewhere to start in designing my classroom and has a lot of good information and ideas on how to do it in the ... full review
"Every school in the U.S. needs this book" - by Jonathan Clancy
PLCs, or professional learning communities, should be the wave of the future. The idea is based around allowing teachers to meet and share/learn about a common topic of interest that will improve their instructional practice. DuFour And DuFour are the gurus of this area

"Written BY practitioners FOR practitioners" - by M. Townsley (Iowa)
Parry Graham and Bill Ferriter said,

"Lacking any kind of organizational decision-making power, teacher leaders can only change the behavior and commitments of colleagues when they are committed to actively building positive relationships with peers" (39).

Over spring break I anxiously started and finished Building a Professional Learning Community at Work: A Guide to the First Year by Graham and Ferriter. I was really excited to read this book, not because I am a self-proclaimed expert in PLCs or even have any experience at all with teacher collaboration, but the idea of creating common assessments, building consensus about what it is all students should learn and be transparent with colleagues about successes and failures in the classroom has intrigued me ever since reading a few of the (in my opinion) more theoretical PLC books written by DuFour, DuFour and Eaker. This book claimed to be written BY practitioners ... full review

"This book is an excellent source to all educators at different levels and policymakers ..." - by Tram
The Multiage Learning Community in Action conveys a rethinking account for schools to build a learning community which helps each learner to reach his or her needs in school for the 21 century. This book is an excellent source to all educators at different levels and policymakers to transform schools into multi-age classrooms. The book highlights the multi-age program as a process, it does not need to be implicated at once. It can be adopted in any schools in any locations.

"An informative and approachable book that offers great promise for changing a classroom!" - by Amber H Wilhelm
This book has a great balance of research and practical guidance, and is a great resource for those hoping to address behavioral challenges and also promote healing and academic achievement in the classroom.

The information is packaged in thoughtful and approachable ways that allow for great insight even if you don't have time to read it cover to cover (though you should!). It includes step-by-step meditation exercises teachers can facilitate in the classroom, and several ideas and strategies for incorporating mindfulness into lessons. The authors also provide many question-based "Mindful Reflection" exercises that encourage readers to think about all of this information in the context of their actual classroom scenarios, which makes it great for problem-solving and self- or group-study. Another aspect I especially appreciate are the "from the classroom" sidebars scattered throughout that share stories of how teachers have incorporated the practices in their classrooms. These accounts are of course ... full review
